In her many roles as a businesswoman, educator and community leader, Jane Beshear, First Lady of Kentucky, has dedicated her life to the service of others throughout the commonwealth.
Mrs. Beshear is a longtime volunteer board member of many local and state civic organizations. Presently she is an ex officio officer of the Kentucky Commission on Women, and an honorary chair of Generations United Seniors4Kids program, which seeks to engage older adults in childhood advocacy issues. She also is a recipient of the Friend of Literacy Award from the Collaborative Center for Literacy Development in recognition of her work in support of adult literacy initiatives.
A lifelong equine enthusiast and advocate, Mrs. Beshear has served as a board member of the Kentucky Horse Park Foundation and Equestrian Events Inc., which organizes the Kentucky Rolex 3-Day Event. Additionally, she served on the board of directors of the World Games 2010 Foundation, which hosted the Federation Equestre Internationale (FEI) World Equestrian Games at the Kentucky Horse Park, in Lexington, in September of 2010. This event, which traditionally has been held in Europe, attracted more than 500,000 attendees from around the globe.
In her role as First Lady, Mrs. Beshear is addressing the issues of breast cancer, school dropout prevention, energy efficiency and many others and looks forward to helping to create a brighter future for all Kentuckians.
The Beshears have been married for more than 40 years and have two sons and three grandchildren.
