The NGA Center’s Federal Facilities Task Force (FFTF) held its 2011 Spring Meeting on May 5th and 6th, in Washington, DC. This meeting provided an opportunity for FFTF members to meet with each other, the US Department of Energy’s Office of Environmental Management (EM), and other invited guests to discuss key issues relevant to states impacted by the ongoing cleanup of the US nuclear weapons complex.
The NGA Center hosted a meeting about the integration of behavioral health and health information exchange. The meeting open to the first seven responding states, included presentations from six experts in health information exchange and the unique challenges to exchanging behavioral health information.

The NGA Center for Best Practices convened a Policy Institute on States and Innovation: Setting the Stage for Job Creation in Washington, DC, from March 24 to 25. The Institute focused on what states and governors can do to improve the economy and create jobs. Topics included ideas about how to best cultivate the elements of an innovation economy, build cluster strategies for specific industries such as advanced manufacturing and energy, spur partnerships between research universities and the private sector, and redesign state economic development agencies.

The webinar addressed Medicaid and CHIP initiatives that improve the quality and delivery of health care for children. The session offered listeners examples of state efforts and innovation in using medical homes to improve care coordination, developing children's electronic health records, and implementing children's quality measures in CHIP.

The meeting highlighted discussions on E-Prescribing for controlled substances, licensure and the intersection of health reform and health IT. It also included an update from federal officials at the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information.
