The NGA Center hosted two conference calls focusing on ideas and solutions for states to balance their Medicaid budgets before 2014. The calls were intended to provide states with creative ideas and options for finding savings in the Medicaid program, as well as provide some direction and advice on moving forward with each of the options.
In August of 2010, the NGA Center convened representatives from seven state medical board attorneys as part of its continuing work on licensure. The attorneys were gathered to build consensus, without compromising the integrity of the licensure process, relative to the questions typically included on a medical licensure application to which physicians have to attest.

The NGA Center, in cooperation with the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL), the National Center for State Courts (NCSC) and the Pew Center on the States, hosted the Cross Governmental Sentencing and Corrections Policy Forum. Funding for the forum was provided by the Pew Center on the States, with additional assistance provided from the State Justice Institute (SJI).
The NGA Center hosted the closing meeting of the Policy Academy on State Building Efficiency Retrofit Programs.

The NGA Center, in partnership with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Office of Emergency Communications (OEC), hosted the Statewide Interoperability Coordinators meeting. Forty-four U.S. states, territories and the District of Columbia were represented at the meeting.
The NGA Center hosted a webinar, Health Information Exchange: Excelling States, which featured three leaders in the health information exchange community who described some of the challenges their states have encountered and how they worked to overcome these challenges. Participants also had an opportunity to ask questions about the challenges facing states and strategies for addressing them as they move toward building health information exchanges.
The adoption of health information technology is about more than abandoning paper files, it is about building the tools to create a better health care system. The electronic exchange of health information has been touted as a tool with the potential to save lives, improve efficiency and enhance quality of our health care delivery system. It is also viewed as one possible way to reduce costs.

The NGA Center hosted the Experts Roundtable on Redesigning State Economic Development to identify and better understand emerging opportunities in the redesign of state economic development agencies. Redesigning state economic development leadership and delivery structure may be a way for states to cut costs, increase productivity, improve their use of technology and craft economic policies that are more in tune with the current pace and scope of the economy.

Representatives from LCF Research, which supports both the New Mexico Health Information Collaborative (NMHIC) and the New Mexico Health Information Technology Regional Extension Center (NM HITREC), held an informational presentation about multiple initiatives in place to develop, implement and maintain health information exchange in New Mexico. Participants joined to learn more about the innovative and collaborative efforts that are laying the groundwork for statewide HIE. The meeting was sponsored by the NGA Center State Alliance for eHealth.
The NGA Center hosted a webcast on prevention and management of asthma in children. The webcast presented the current landscape and issues relating to childhood asthma and options for disease management initiatives.
