NGA COMMITTEES, TASK FORCES & COUNCIL OF GOVERNORS

Executive Committee

The NGA chair, vice chair and other members of the nine-person Executive Committee, who are elected annually, supervise the association’s operations on behalf of the entire membership. NGA’s Executive Committee has general authority over all policy issues and primary jurisdiction over issues involving federalism, homeland security, the federal budget and federal tax policy.


Education, Workforce and Community Investment Task Force

The Education, Workforce and Community Investment Task Force has jurisdiction over a broad range of issue areas including: Labor and Workforce Development, Career and Technical Skills, PreK-12 Education, Postsecondary Education, Criminal Justice, Housing, and Agriculture.


Economic Development and Revitalization Task Force

The Economic Development and Revitalization Task Force has jurisdiction over a broad range of issue areas including: Infrastructure, Broadband, State Stabilization, Energy, Environment, Land Management, and Taxes.


Public Health and Disaster Response Task Force

The Public Health and Disaster Response Task Force has jurisdiction over a broad range of issues in the areas including: Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA,) National Guard, Healthcare, Nutrition, Cybersecurity, Immigration, Human Services, and Public Health Emergency issues related to testing, vaccines, supply chain and personal protective equipment (PPE).


Council of Governors

The Council of Governors consists of ten governors, five from each party, appointed to two-year terms by the President. Two governors serve as co-chairs. Federal participants in the Council include the Secretaries of Defense and Homeland Security, the President’s Homeland Security and Counterterrorism Advisor, the Commander of U.S. Northern Command and the Chief of the National Guard Bureau, among others. The Council of Governors covers key issues such as:

  • Support the National Guard and Military Families
  • Improve Catastrophic Disaster Response and Recovery
  • Build Cybersecurity Partnerships and Resilience
  • Inform Federal Budgetary Considerations
