In 1908, President Theodore Roosevelt convened the first-ever meeting of the nation's governors at the White House. In 2008, NGA will continue its tradition of annual meetings when it convenes in Philadelphia for its Centennial Meeting, held July 11–14.
<!--02-->NGA Awards Clean Energy Grants to 12 StatesNGA Awards Clean Energy Grants to 12 States
The NGA Center awarded grants of $50,000 to 12 states to help them advance clean energy projects in their states. The awards were made as part of the Clean Energy States Grant Program, a program under NGA Chair Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty's Securing a Clean Energy Future Initiative, and are designed to help overcome obstacles to greater energy efficiency, conservation and use of clean energy resources in the states.

States must consider a wide variety of new and traditional types of funding sources and financing mechanisms in order to continue providing safe and stable surface transportation infrastructure now and in the future, experts concluded at the State Summit on Innovative Transportation Funding and Financing, sponsored by the NGA Center and supported by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT).
