During the 2010 NGA Winter Meeting, forty-seven governors sent a letter to congressional leaders asking for a two quarter extension of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act's (ARRA) enhanced federal match for Medicaid (FMAP). The letter also urges Congress to modify ARRA’s existing maintenance of effort to provide states more flexibility to manage their Medicaid programs.

Results of an annual survey of governors homeland security advisors, released during the NGA Winter Meeting, showed similar homeland security governance structures across states, evolving priorities as a result of current events like the H1N1 pandemic and concerns about sustaining security capabilities under current funding mechanisms.

The Consortium for Energy Efficiency released a report showing a 43 percent growth in U.S. utilities’ spending on energy efficiency programs from 2008 to 2009.

The nation's governors gathered to address critical issues, including health care reform and the economy. Governors also met with President Obama, members of the Administration, business executives and other experts for discussions on a host of issues and challenges facing states.
