What are Sector Strategies? Sector strategies are industry-driven partnerships between education, training, economic development, community-based, labor management and other organizations that work to jointly solve the workforce challenges of a critical industry in a specific region. Resources Sector strategies build partnerships between employers, training providers, community organizations, and other key stakeholders around specific industries to address the workforce needs of employers and the training, employment, and career advancement needs of workers. Governors in many states are making sector strategies a central element of their state workforce and economic development policies. In response to the sector strategies trend underway in many states, the NGA Center partnered with the National Network of Sector Partners and the Corporation for a Skilled Workforce to launch Accelerating State Adoption of Sector Strategies. Through this project, the NGA Center is working with twenty-five states to help create, grow, and mature state sector strategies across the country. Additional information on the project is available on the project Web site. The Accelerating State Adoption of Sector Strategies project is funded by the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation, the Ford Foundation, and the Joyce Foundation. |
