In this issue we shine the spotlight on the oft-ignored “supply-side” of high school redesign by examining how state policymakers are expanding the supply of high-quality high schools using innovative new models and replicating them at scale.

Overview

The NGA Center's Honor States Grant Program is a $23.6 million, governor-led initiative to improve high school and college-ready graduation rates in 26 states. Many of the changes being undertaken by states are outlined in An Action Agenda for Improving America's High Schools and Getting it Done: Ten Steps to a State Action Agenda, which provide a framework for states to continue restructuring efforts begun during NGA's Redesigning the American High School initiative.

Focus of Center Activities

Phase I of the grant offers governors the opportunity to develop and begin to implement comprehensive plans to improve high school graduation and college readiness rates.

Phase II grants will focus on state work in more specific areas such as adding rigor, expanding AP participation, and improving low performing high schools.
