GUY B. PARK was born in Platte City, Missouri on June 10, 1872. His education was attained at Gaylord Academy, and at the University of Missouri, where he earned a law degree in 1896. After establishing his legal career in Denver, Colorado; Park returned to his hometown, and entered into a public service career. He served as the Platte County city attorney in 1900, as well as serving as the prosecuting attorney, a position he held from 1906 to 1910. He also served as a member of the Missouri State Constitutional Convention in 1922, and served on the bench of the Fifth Judicial Circuit Court from 1923 to 1932. Park next secured the Democratic gubernatorial nomination, and was elected governor on November 8, 1932. He was sworn into office on January 9, 1933. During his tenure, the state's liquor laws were improved; the University of Kansas City was instituted; state government was restructured; a state sales tax was implemented; a conservation commission was created; mine strikes were dealt with; and the state department of agriculture was established. After leaving office, he went on to serve as a delegate to the State Constitutional Convention in 1943. Governor Guy B. Park passed away on October 1, 1946, and was buried in the Platte City Cemetery.
