DALE E. WOLF, the seventy-seventh governor of Delaware, was born in Kearney, Nebraska on September 6, 1924. His education was attained at the University of Nebraska, where he graduated with a degree in agriculture.  He later attended Rutgers University, where he earned a Ph.D. During World War II, he served as a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army, and received a Purple Heart and Bronze Star for his bravery in the Battle of Okinawa. After his military service, he established a successful career with the DuPont Company, first working in the agriculture research division, and later serving as the chairman of the board of DuPont's pharmaceutical business. Wolf entered politics in 1989, serving as the lieutenant governor of Delaware, a position he held until 1992. On December 31, 1992, Governor Michael Castle resigned from office, and Wolf, who was the lieutenant governor at the time, assumed the duties of the governorship. He served in this capacity until January 19, 1993. Wolf later served as chairman of Daynel International, and was vice chairman of the board of directors of the Emerald BioAgrcriculture Corporation. He also served as the international consultant for the law firm of Mezzullo and McCandlish. Governor Wolf and his family reside near Wilmington, Delaware, where he remains active in community and civic affairs.
