ROBERT B. CROSBY, the twenty-eighth governor of Nebraska, was born in North Platte, Nebraska, on March 26, 1911. His education was attained at Hastings College, at the University of Minnesota, where he graduated in 1931, and at Harvard University, where he earned a law degree in 1935. He then established his legal career in his hometown of North Platte. Crosby first entered politics as a member of the Nebraska Unicameral Legislature, a position he won election to in 1940 and 1942. He also served as speaker of the unicameral in 1943, and was the lieutenant governor of Nebraska from 1947 to 1949. Crosby next secured the Republican gubernatorial nomination, and was elected governor by a popular vote in November 1952. During his tenure, three appointments were made to the U.S. Senate; industrial developments were promoted; and a tax assessment parity bill was authorized. After leaving the governorship, Crosby returned to his legal career. He also served as a delegate to the Republican National Conventions in 1956, 1960, 1964, 1972, and 1976. Governor Robert B. Crosby passed away on January 7, 2000, and was buried in the Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery in Lincoln, Nebraska.
