ROBERT PYLE ROBINSON was born near Wilmington, Delaware, on March 28, 1869. He was educated in Wilmington's public school system and at Rugby Academy. Robinson worked in the banking industry for more than 25 years and eventually was made president of the Central National Bank in Wilmington. Robinson entered politics as the 1924 Republican gubernatorial candidate, and was elected Delaware's 49th governor. He was sworn into office on January 20, 1925. During his tenure, he was a proponent of the organization of the State Board of Charities, he endorsed the building of new public school institutions, and he supported a modernized pension system for needy mothers. Robinson left office on January 15, 1929, and retired from public service. He continued to stay active in his duties as president of the Central National Bank. Governor Robert P. Robinson died on March 4, 1939, and is buried at the Wilmington and Brandywine Cemetery in Wilmington, Delaware.
