Prevention and Wellness Strategies for State Employee Populations (Conference Call: April 26, 2007) Conference Slides (ppt): 2005-06 NGA Chair Gov. Mike Huckabee's Initiative Healthy America: Wellness Where We Live, Work and Learn Healthy America is about highlighting the simple yet specific behavioral and lifestyle changes necessary for sustainable long-term health for children, teenagers, adults and seniors. By marshalling the public and private sectors, we can make our communities, workplaces and schools healthier. Healthy America will educate people on the need for lifestyle changes, showing them how to change and offering incentives for implementing those changes in their daily lives. Aging Initiative The Aging Initiative is a multi-year NGA Center project supported by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to help states respond to the ever evolving needs of America's aging population. The initiative will highlight best practices and policy strategies that will enable states to: - encourage long-term care and retirement income planning among individuals;
- promote "elder-friendly" communities;
- develop a skilled workforce of home health and nursing aides, nurses, doctors and other specialists to meet the needs of an aged population.
Cancer Prevention & Control Clearinghouse This section is designed to provide a national clearinghouse of best practices in cancer control and prevention - empowering states to share what works in the battle against cancer. State Health Leadership Initiative The State Health Leadership Initiative is made possible by a grant from The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, State Health Leadership Initiative (SHLI), administered by the National Governors Association (NGA). Its purpose is to accelerate the development of the leadership capacity of State Health Officials as policymakers, administrators, and advocates for the health of the public. |
