WASHINGTON—Building on the National Governors Association (NGA) Chair's Initiative, Securing a Clean Energy Future, governors will discuss the role of traditional domestic energy sources in a clean energy future during the upcoming 2008 NGA Winter Meeting. The discussions will occur during the NGA Natural Resources Committee meeting on Sunday, Feb. 24 at 2:30 p.m. at the J.W. Marriott hotel in Washington, D.C. The session will focus on policy options that will help fulfill the goals of the initiative while using traditional domestic energy sources. "The real key to a successful future in the energy sector is sustainability. "Sustainability is achieved when we incorporate a balance of environmental, economic and energy security goals to maintain a reliable and efficient power sector in our economy." "Governors are looking for ways to promote clean, secure and affordable energy for our nation's future and many governors have taken strong steps to create innovative energy initiatives in their states," said Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, vice chair of the committee.
