Day 1: Promoting Green Jobs and Green Industry – Clean Energy Policies, Economic Development, and Workforce Training
Day 2: Understanding Private Investment Opportunities for Clean Energy Technology

The National Governors Association Center for Best Practices recently hosted a 2-day Green Economy State Roundtable. Over 70 participants attended the Roundtable on April 30th and May 1st, 2009 in Washington, DC.

During the Roundtable, senior advisors on energy, economic development and workforce from 22 states were joined by experts from private industry, venture capital and investment firms, academia, think tanks and the federal government.  The first day focused on  states’ effort to promote green jobs and green industries, including clean energy policies to create and enhance markets, workforce training efforts, and how states can leverage investments from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).  The second day examined how private investment, including venture capital and other sources, can be leveraged with public funding and incentives and university R&D efforts to create and sustain clean energy efforts. Participant breakout groups developed a list of recommendations on how states can better define and measure green economy impacts, support workforce and education needs, develop a green manufacturing base, and facilitate private investment in clean energy.

The Roundtable was a collaborative effort of the NGA Center’s Environment, Energy and Natural Resources Division and Social, Economic and Workforce Programs Division.
