2005 National Education Summit on High Schools
Washington, D.C. (February 26-27)

The 2005 National Education Summit marked an extraordinary opportunity for the nation's political, education and business leaders to build consensus around an agenda for high school improvement - and to continue the momentum toward ensuring every American student graduates high school ready for college or work.

At this Summit, governors, chief executives and education leaders addressed such core issues as strengthening high school graduation requirements, expanding options and support for students to achieve higher standards, improving teaching and principal leadership, and strengthening high school and college data and accountability systems.

Getting it Done: Ten Steps to a State Action Agenda
National Governors Association Chairman Virginia Gov. Mark Warner unveiled a list of 10 achievable actions states can implement to accelerate statewide high school education reforms.
Action Agenda for Improving America's High Schools
The Action Agenda calls on the nation to raise expectations for what students should be required to achieve in high school, identify clear ways states can transform high schools and create new options for students so that more will graduate. It also calls upon states to improve the quality of teaching and leadership in high schools.
