Economic Opportunity Division
Dana Westgren serves as a policy analyst with the National Governors Association Center for Best Practices Economic Opportunity Division with a focus on workforce policy. Her projects include providing technical assistance for states interested in developing apprenticeship programs, work-based learning policy and assessing occupational licensing.
Before joining NGA, Dana was the job development specialist for Academy of Hope (AOH), a DC-based adult education non-profit. At AOH, Dana was responsible for identifying potential career paths for students, creating partnerships with industry and engaging in career consultation. Previous to that, she worked for Jones Lang LaSalle, a commercial real estate services firm, as a research analyst focused on economic trends in the construction industry.
Dana earned her MPA from Cornell University’s Cornell Institute for Public Affairs, focusing in public management. While completing her degree, she served as both a Chicago Mayoral Fellow in 2013 and a White House Domestic Policy Council Intern in 2014, working on rural development policy.
Originally from Champaign, Illinois, she holds a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Illinois.
