Chronic Disease and Prevention

The cost of chronic disease to this country is colossal and treatment of chronic disease constitutes a large proportion of public spending. Governors can help improve health outcomes, increase worker productivity and reduce costs by investing in chronic disease prevention and health promotion. NGA Health offers technical assistance of a range of chronic disease issues, including cancer, heart disease and tobacco cessation. Governor’s offices have an opportunity to not only improve clinical outcomes, but also to create a cross-agency prevention approach that prioritizes reducing health inequities.
