Office of Communications
Elena Waskey serves as press secretary in the NGA Office of Communications, where she is the primary point of contact for media and governors’ communications staff. She is instrumental in developing communications strategies for legislative priorities, state public policy and NGA chair’s initiatives.
Before joining NGA in 2013, Waskey worked for media and marketing conglomerate Gannett in several editorial roles. At Gannett, she was a founding member of USA TODAY’s premium publications department, where she served as lead editor of magazines across a spectrum of topic areas, including travel, lifestyle, health, sports and special events. In her seven-year tenure at Gannett, she helped launch more than a dozen news products.
Waskey holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Maryland and a master’s degree in strategic communication from American University. She is a member of the Washington, D.C., chapter of the Public Relations Society of America.
