The National Governors Association (NGA) looks forward to working with the new Administration to drive the policy changes that matter most to states. Governors implement smart policies every day that help the people of their states. Their input is absolutely essential as the new Administration crafts its policy agenda.

Through communication with our members, NGA has identified 10 priority issues on which we can engage to produce a positive outcome for Americans, many of which align with the President’s announced priorities, including:

  • Health care remains a top concern for governors and the American public. The health care system is complex, and any major changes to current law will affect states and their residents. Governors are particularly enthusiastic about federal reforms that provide states with greater flexibility to develop innovative solutions that meet their residents’ needs at the state and local levels.
  • Infrastructure is another topic critical to America’s economic success. Infrastructure provides nationwide access and connectivity, strengthens economic competitiveness, helps reduce congestion, improves safety, supports environmental sustainability and boosts quality of life.
  • Federal tax reform is a complex and multi-pronged issue and because of its significant impact on states, fundamental reform cannot succeed unless it is an intergovernmental effort.

Other topics of importance to governors and their states include education, energy, environment, federal regulation, homeland security and public safety, human services and child nutrition and workforce.
