Susanne Shore

Susanne Shore became the first lady of Nebraska when her husband, Governor Pete Ricketts, was sworn in as governor on January 8, 2015.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in English and a master’s degree in business from Oklahoma State University. She also holds a nursing degree from Creighton University and worked as a nurse at St. Joseph’s Hospital before deciding to stay at home full-time to raise her family.

The first lady is a committed advocate for child welfare. During the past 10 years, she has served on the board of the Child Saving Institute, including two years as chair, and more recently the Nebraska Families Collaborative. She also volunteered with Douglas County CASA as a court-appointed special advocate for at-risk children.

The first lady and her husband were married in Omaha in 1997, and they have three teenage children: Roscoe and Margot, who are twins, and Eleanor.
