Dear Majority Leader McConnell, Minority Leader Reid, Speaker Ryan, and Minority Leader Pelosi,

On behalf of the nation’s governors, we applaud the Senate for passing the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) of 2016. We urge the House to take up its own version of WRDA reauthorization as soon as possible.

Governors have long advocated a return to the traditional biennial reauthorization schedule for this legislation. States recognize the value of investment in the nation’s infrastructure. WRDA supports the safety, environmental protection and economic development of state and local communities.

Governors strongly supported the bipartisan passage of the Water Resources and Reform Development Act of 2014. We encourage Congress to again work together to pass a WRDA reauthorization that will provide states with added stability and certainty to meet water infrastructure needs.

Sincerely,

Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr., California
Chair, Natural Resources Committee

Governor Matthew H. Mead, Wyoming
Vice Chair, Natural Resources Committee
