Dear Majority Leader McConnell, Speaker Ryan, Minority Leader Reid and Minority Leader Pelosi:

On behalf of the nation’s governors and state legislatures, we commend both chambers for passing the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) of 2016.

WRDA is critical to protect, maintain and further develop our nation’s waterways and ports. It provides states with added stability and certainty to meet water our infrastructure needs while also supporting the safety, environmental protection and economic development of state and local communities.

Governors and state legislatures strongly supported the bipartisan passage of the Water Resources and Reform Development Act of 2014. We encourage Congress to again work together to pass a WRDA reauthorization so as to ensure a return to the traditional biennial reauthorization schedule for this legislation.

Sincerely,

National Conference of State Legislatures
