School Safety and Prevention Webinar

The National Governors Association (NGA) Center for Best Practices Education, Health and Homeland Security and Public Safety divisions held a webinar on School Safety and Prevention on September 17, 2018. The webinar highlighted the work in West Virginia, Maryland and Nevada from state representatives and NGA staff. Additionally, three distinct voices from the field were featured—Scarlett Lewis, the mother of Jesse Lewis who was tragically killed with his peers and educators in the Sandy Hook Elementary tragedy; Dr. Lina Alathari from the United States Secret Service and Dr. Sharon Hoover, Associate Professor at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. The topics discussed ranged from homeland security and public safety, social and emotional learning and mental and behavioral health. Resources will be disseminated to education, health and homeland security policy advisors.
