Washington State Retreat on Enhancing Lead-by-Example Efforts

The National Governors Association Center for Best Practices (NGA Center), in partnership with the Office of Washington Governor Jay Inslee, hosted a one-day retreat on approaches to improve energy efficiency and reduce energy expenditures in state buildings. The objectives of the retreat were to:

  • Examine the state’s current policies and programs and opportunities to enhance these offerings;
  • Explore relevant lead-by-example policy and program models, including public-private partnership models; and
  • Discuss new, innovative strategies such as applying an internal carbon fee associated with energy use from public buildings.
