Lauren Baker became the first lady of Massachusetts when her husband, Gov. Charlie Baker, was sworn in as governor January 8, 2015.

Mrs. Baker earned a bachelor’s degree and MBA from Northwestern University. She is a veteran of the advertising world and has managed many brand campaigns. Currently, Mrs. Baker works as an independent marketing communications consultant for emerging companies.

As first lady, she works to increase awareness and raise funds for numerous causes in support of children, education, health and social services. Mrs. Baker serves on the regional board of directors of American Red Cross of Massachusetts, and she is a founding member of the Tiffany Circle Society of Women Leaders. She was chair of the board of trustees of Marian Court College, a small, private college committed to serving first generation students from low-income families. She recently joined the Phoenix Charter Academy Foundation board, which supports the Academy’s charter schools’ programs serving at-risk teens. The first lady also is a long time board member of the Massachusetts Association for Mental Health.

The Bakers currently reside in Swampscott, Massachusetts, and have three children, Charlie, AJ and Caroline.
