Diann Torres became the first lady of the Northern Mariana Islands when her husband, Governor Ralph Deleon Guerrero Torres, was sworn in as governor on December 29, 2015.
Mrs. Torres established the Lady Diann Torres Foundation with the goal of bettering the lives of people on the islands. The foundation has supported cancer research fundraising, women’s empowerment conferences and the cultural history of indigenous populations. Additionally, Mrs. Torres has met with social service agencies to advocate for improved services for individuals with disabilities, including facilitating their transition into the workforce.
The foundation also promotes language and literacy, particularly in the indigenous languages of Chamorro and Carolinian. In 2017, Mrs. Torres launched the Language in Literacy Young Author’s Program and Young Author’s Competition.
She has also been an annual participant in the Salvation Army’s annual Thanksgiving lunch, helping to distribute approximately seven hundred meals annually.
The first lady and Governor Torres have six children: Ralph Anthony, Vaniqa Marie, Deon Titus, Tristan Dane, Divannie, and Ryan.
