Nawshin Ahmed
Senior Policy Analyst
Nawshin Ahmed is a Senior Policy Analyst at the National Governors Association Center for Best Practices’ Health Care Delivery team. Nawshin provides policy analysis and technical assistance to governors and senior state officials on a broad range of behavioral health issues, including substance use disorders, stimulant use, mental health, and opioids and polysubstance drug policies. She also coordinates with internal and external teams on substance use disorder and justice-involved populations, public health initiatives, and co-occurring disorders.
Before joining NGA, Nawshin served as Naloxone Projects Coordinator at the New York City Department of Health & Mental Hygiene to expand citywide access to naloxone through pharmacy initiatives. She spearheaded a pilot program to provide naloxone free of charge through pharmacies in priority neighborhoods across NYC. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she also served the Health Department as a Contact Monitoring Facilitator to track citywide disease exposure.
Nawshin holds a Masters in Public Health from the University at Albany, a Masters in Business Administration from Stony Brook University, and a Bachelors in Public Health from Albany College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences.
Nawshin was born and raised in New York.
