WASHINGTON—The National Governors Association today released the following statement on Congress’ budget resolution, which includes funding to combat the Zika virus:
“The nation’s governors appreciate the Senate and House of Representatives reaching agreement and allocating funding for the Zika virus. The resolution represents a much-needed first step in the right direction after many months of impasse.
Governors have been on the front lines of preparing for and controlling the spread of Zika since it first became a public health concern.
Though we support Congress finally putting partisan politics aside, we encourage members to seriously explore ways to secure funding for future public health crises in a manner not subject to politicization.
The American people deserve a government able to act expeditiously in public health emergencies.”
