NGA Announces New Strategy, Communications Head

WASHINGTON —The National Governors Association (NGA) today announced Tiffany Shackelford as chief strategic officer and director of communications and strategic planning. With more than 20 years of leadership in media, communications and marketing, Shackelford will be first person to hold the newly created position incorporating strategy and communications.

“I am thrilled to bring Tiffany Shackelford aboard as a chief strategic officer and lead for communications and strategic planning,” NGA Executive Director and CEO Scott Pattison said. “Her varied background as a media professional, association head and strategist will be crucial in helping to propel NGA forward.”

Prior to NGA, Shackelford was executive director for the Association of Alternative Newsmedia, where she worked with the organization’s board on new business and advertising models, as well as digital content strategies.

Shackelford has unique skills and understanding of communications and technology as well as states. She served as the director of communications and marketing at Phase2 Technology, a digital agency.  Shackelford was also executive director of Capitolbeat, the former association of state capitol reporters and editors, and assistant managing editor at the nonprofit, nonpartisan news site Stateline.org, which focused on state issues.

“I am excited to begin the next chapter of my career helping to raise the profile of such a venerable institution,” Shackelford said. “I look forward to ushering in an era of openness and transparency to the organization, bringing the governors’ vision of a strong, relevant and effective NGA to fruition.”
