The National Governors Association (NGA), the Council of State Governments, the National Association of Counties, the National Conference of State Legislatures, the National League of Cities, the U.S. Conference of Mayors and the International City/County Management Association issued a statement applauding the introduction of the Marketplace Fairness Act by Sen. Mike Enzi (R-WY) and the Remote Transactions Parity act by Rep. Kristi Noem (R-SD).
Billions are lost each year from the failure of states to collect sales tax from online purchases. State and local groups have long supported legislation that would allow for the collection of those taxes and level the playing field between online and Main Street businesses.
