The National Governors Association Center for Best Practices (NGA Center) has selected five states—Connecticut, Illinois, Massachusetts, South Dakota and Wisconsin—to participate in a workshop to explore lessons learned from the upcoming GridEx IV exercise. GridEx is a remote, biennial exercise hosted by the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) designed to simulate a cyber/physical attack on electric and other critical infrastructures across North America. The GridEx IV Exercise workshop will take place November 15–16.
Governors can play a critical role during a widespread electrical grid outage. The goal of this project is to help states improve their ability to respond and recover from such an event. State teams will work with the NGA Center to complete pre-exercise work to prepare for the exercise and then participate in a two-day post-exercise workshop to be hosted by in January. At this workshop, states and experts will discuss findings from the exercise, identify best practices and solutions and identify action steps to address the challenges discovered. NGA will subsequently share lessons learned from this workshop with the other states.
