Briefing on Law Enforcement Recruitment and Retention Efforts

On Thursday March 19th, the National Governors Association (NGA) hosted its monthly briefing for the Criminal Justice Policy Advisors (CJPA) network. The briefing discussed strategies and best practices for the recruitment and retention of law enforcement and first responder personnel.  Other networks on the call included the Governors Legal Counsel network and the Consortium of State Public Safety Executives.  

The briefing featured a presentation by Dr. Jenn Rineer, the Director of the Workforce Wellbeing & Effectiveness Program and a Research Psychologist with the Center for Public Safety & Resilience at RTI International. The call included a discussion of recent efforts to improve recruitment of public safety personnel and provided examples of state programs to boost retention through the implementation of wellness and mental health programming.
