On Tuesday, December 5th, the National Governors Association (NGA) hosted its monthly briefing for the Criminal Justice Policy Advisors (CJPA) network. The briefing discussed the increasing trend in motor vehicle crime and the potential policy solutions for states.
The briefing featured an opening briefing from Marc Pelka, Undersecretary of Criminal Justice Policy and Planning with the Connecticut Office of Policy and Management. These remarks were followed by presentations from Howard Handler, Senior Director of Government Affairs with the Office of Strategy, Policy, and Government Affairs at the National Insurance Crime Bureau and Matt Moore, Senior Vice President at the Highway Loss Data Institute.
The briefing included a discussion of the data and technology challenges associated with motor vehicle crime, how the increased thefts of Hyundai and Kia vehicles has impacted rates, and the policy considerations in addressing this type of crime.
