Short and Long Term Strategies to Address Water Utility Revenue Losses From COVID-19

Drinking water utilities are expected to lose $13.9 billion in the next year due COVID-19 according to the American Water Works Association report Financial Impact of the COVID-19 Crisis on U.S. Drinking Water Utilities; and wastewater and stormwater utilities are expected to lose $12.5 billion in revenue according to the National Association of Clean Water Agencies NACWA estimates; for a total of $26.4 billion in revenue losses. Small rural systems and those serving cities with declining populations may be especially hard hit and may need emergency federal and/or state funds to remain operational. This webinar featured industry experts who explained the methodology behind the revenue loss estimates and discussed short and long-term strategies states can adopt to support water services that are critical to human health and a thriving economy.
