Policy Making During a Pandemic: Navigating the New Normal and What Lies Ahead Roundtables

Throughout the month of October, NGA will be hosting four policy roundtables for state policymakers and NGA experts to discuss today’s most pressing policy priorities. We will convene to discuss topics identified by Governors and their staff including, COVID-19 response and recovery, Law Enforcement and Public Safety, State Government Operations, and Economic Recovery.

Session I: COVID-19 Response and Recovery
Thursday, October 8| 2:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. ET

COVID-19 has permeated all aspects of everyday life and thus governance. To kick-off this series, we will meet to discuss the impact and effects of the pandemic, including healthcare response, COVID fatigue, reopening schools, wellness and a look-ahead at vaccinations and the future of the pandemic. 


Session II: Law Enforcement and Public Safety
Thursday, October 15| 2:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. ET

This session will explore ways to bridge the gap between law enforcement and the local communities in which they protect, crime prevention, and criminal justice reform.


Session III: State Government Operations
Thursday, October 22 | 2:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.

NGA Partner Deloitte will provide context for a discussion on strategic planning and implementation, managing normal state government operations during a pandemic, good leadership, and time-management training.


Session IV: Economic Recovery
Thursday, October 29 |2:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.    

NGA Partner McKinsey & Company and Dr. Robert Wescott and Elizabeth Rust of Keybridge will address the economic downturn at the state level.
