Disagree Better

Governor Videos

Americans are deeply concerned and exhausted by the hyperpartisanship and polarization in our country, and rightly so. We’ve forgotten how to persuade without hating each other. But our nation’s history shows there’s a better way, and we all need to re-learn how to Disagree Better.

Governors reach across the aisle every day – working together behind the scenes on bipartisan solutions. Now, through Disagree Better, Governors are taking that bipartisan teamwork public. Why? Depolarization research shows that one of the most effective ways to bridge the partisan divide destroying our politics is simply to see Republicans and Democrats getting along. Cooperating. Debating the issues with conviction, not conflict.

In an ongoing video series, Governors are sharing the screen with officials from the opposite party – fellow Governors, mayors and more – to model Disagree Better in action. By breaking the cycle of conflict and personal attacks, Governors aim to remind Americans that there is a better way. It’s possible to disagree without being disagreeable – and it produces better policy.

Consider it counterprogramming. Cable news and social media are all conflict, all the time. But there is an exhausted majority out there, quietly working together. Just ask these Governors.
