NGA Winter Meeting Breaks Attendance Record

WASHINGTON—At the 2017 National Governors Association (NGA) Winter Meeting this weekend, there will be a record number of attendees, including at least 46 governors.

“I am pleased so many governors will be on hand this weekend to discuss and work through some of the most pressing issues facing America today,” said NGA Chair Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe. “Now more than ever, governors’ involvement is paramount as Congress and the Administration develop new policies that affect our citizens.”

“As we look ahead to the 109th Winter Meeting of the nation’s governors, the record attendance indicates the importance of governors as part of the process of developing policies that improve people’s quality of life,” said NGA Executive Director and CEO Scott Pattison. “Governors work every day for the people of their states to find solutions to complex policy challenges.”

Beginning Friday, Feb. 24, Democratic, Republican and Independent governors will gather in Washington, D.C., for one of their two annual meetings. In addition to policy discussions on education, infrastructure, childhood hunger and cybersecurity, governors will meet with President Trump, Vice President Pence and various cabinet secretaries. They will also go to Capitol Hill on Monday to hold briefings with leaders in Congress on health care reform, tax reform and cybersecurity.
