The Governors Homeland Security Advisors Council (GHSAC) met January 30 – February 1, 2024, in Washington, D.C., for its annual Winter Meeting. The GHSAC regularly brings together Governors’ homeland security advisors from states, commonwealths, territories, and the District of Columbia. The mission of the GHSAC is to inform and shape national homeland security policy, keep governors abreast of the current threat environment and the impacts of federal homeland security legislation, regulations, and policies, as well as share and promote best practices related to homeland security activities.
The Winter Meeting this year included representatives from 41 states, territories, and the District of Columbia. Topics discussed during this year’s meeting included the overall current threat environment, critical infrastructure protection, countering the threat posed by Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS), energy security, cybersecurity, emerging threats, and drug trafficking prevention.
The GHSAC also spoke with distinguished national leaders, including Secretary of Homeland Security Mayorkas, FBI Director Wray, National Homeland Security Advisor Dr. Sherwood-Randall, CISA Director Easterly, Deputy National Security Advisor Neuberger, and Deputy National Cyber Director Drennan, among others.
The Winter Meeting provided an important opportunity to continue to advance Governors’ homeland security priorities, share best practices, and improve the nation’s homeland security enterprise.
