Kristin Cooper

Kristin Cooper became the first lady of North Carolina when her husband, Governor Roy Cooper, was sworn in on Jan. 1, 2017.

Mrs. Cooper grew up in Oklahoma City and earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Oklahoma, and her J.D.  from Campbell University’s Law School in North Carolina. Upon graduating from law school, she worked as a staff attorney for the Oklahoma and North Carolina state legislatures.

After the Coopers were married, the first lady focused attention on raising their three children. During that time, she served on the board of directors of a local theatre, where she also acted in productions. Mrs. Cooper has served as a guardian ad litem for children in Wake County for eleven years, using her legal training to represent foster children in court. She also served two terms on the North Carolina Arts Council, working to support the arts and arts organizations.

The Coopers have three daughters: Hilary, Natalie and Claire.
