Governors Support Agriculture Economy

The National Governors Association (NGA) released the following statement on the Senate’s passage of a farm bill:

“The nation’s governors support America’s producers who are the backbone of our communities, feeding our communities and the world. The $992 billion U.S. agricultural industry plays a vital role in our national economy contributing over 5 percent to the overall U.S. GDP, and supporting over 11 percent of U.S. jobs. Especially during the current agricultural downturn, our farmers and ranchers deserve certainty and stability as they plan for this, and future farm years. Additionally, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program provides a key benefit to more than 40 million low-income individuals and families. Governors look forward to working with conferees on passage of a bipartisan farm bill.”
