According to National Governors Association (NGA) Chair Phil Murphy, Governor of New Jersey and NGA Vice Chair Spencer Cox, Governor of Utah:
“We are encouraged by reports of a decline in border crossings since the end of Title 42. Significant challenges remain for Governors and state assets, both for those located along the southern border and within the interior part of the country. Governors are working to ensure migrants are treated humanely and receive safe treatment, but additional resources are urgently needed to meet current and projected needs.
The present situation also exposes the fragility of our current immigration system and is a keen reminder of how great the need is for Congress and the Administration to work together on permanent, bipartisan solutions that secure the southern border and provide safe, legal and efficient pathways to lawful status.”
