Stitt caps yearlong NGA initiative focused on advancing education, entrepreneurship and energy
OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt this evening joined governors from across the country recognize the progress made through his work as National Governors Association (NGA) chair to advance education, cultivate entrepreneurship, and promote more sustainable and secure energy systems. Through his yearlong chair’s initiative, “Reigniting the American Dream,” Gov. Stitt championed bipartisan effort to equip every learner, to promote innovation and economic mobility, and to power America’s future.
“The American Dream is still alive and well, and governors are working together to make sure every American has the opportunity to chase their dream,” said Oklahoma Governor Stitt. “I believe that you can accomplish any dream if you’re willing to work hard for it. I’m proud of the work we’ve done together to empower people to chase their dreams, and I’m excited to celebrate that here in Oklahoma City this week.”
“Governor Stitt’s work Reigniting the American Dream underscores the real results we can deliver when we work together for our states, as we commit to building pathways to work, wages, and wealth,” said NGA Vice Chair Maryland Gov. Moore. “Whether it’s strengthening our state’s economy by developing a skilled workforce, building a world-class educational system, or investing in clean and reliable energy systems; when we work without the false division of red-versus-blue we deliver real results for the communities that matter most.”
“Governor Stitt’s Reigniting the American Dream initiative is the right conversation at the right time,” said NGA CEO Brandon Tatum. “The American Dream hasn’t changed, but achieving it takes a fresh approach in the AI age. Governors are laser-focused on providing strong schools, career pathways, reliable energy and a thriving business environment that builds communities where hard work can turn into real opportunity. Across party lines and state lines, governors are proving that when we clear barriers, open doors and invest in people, we can help more Americans write their own American Dream story.”
Launched in July 2025, the initiative explored best practices and research to inform policy and practice around three pillars:
- Unlocking Economic Opportunity: Advancing the American Dream through entrepreneurship, innovation and economic mobility
- Empowering Every Learner: Reimagining education to equip every learner – at every age – for a changing world
- Energizing the Future: Powering America’s next chapter by investing in secure, smart and sustainable energy systems
The year’s work culminated with a documentary preview this evening. The full-length piece features fellow governors alongside business leaders like Mark Cuban sharing obstacles and opportunities they encountered in their only-in-America paths to success. Drawing on interviews with more than 50 Americans across generations, backgrounds, and political perspectives, the diverse participants share a common conviction, Reigniting the American Dream is available here.
In addition to the documentary, Gov. Stitt also worked to produce a playbook featuring forward-looking energy policies. Titled “Ensuring America’s Energy Leadership: A State Roadmap for Energy Security, Economic Growth, and Grid Resilience,” the playbook highlights policy solutions to accelerate permitting reform, deliver reliable power for a growing economy and strengthen energy security.
Gov. Stitt also unveiled the Governors Compact on Entrepreneurship, which aims to unleash a new generation of entrepreneurs by identifying a variety of ways governors can make entrepreneurship a priority their states and territories. Signed by more than 25 governors, the compact is inspired by an executive order Gov. Stitt signed in January designating a Chief Entrepreneurial Officer within the executive branch and advancing policies to make it easier for entrepreneurs to start and grow businesses in Oklahoma.
Compact participants include Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Hawai‘i, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, Maryland, Minnesota, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Utah, U.S. Virgin Islands, West Virginia and Wyoming.
Over the past year, Gov. Stitt also led a series of convenings – in Switzerland, Austin, Washington, D.C., Philadelphia – bringing together governors, private sector leaders, and changemakers to explore policy and practice to forge a more hopeful, prosperous future for every American.
