WASHINGTON—The National Governors Association (NGA) signaled today that it will now work with Congress to address their concerns with the Air Force’s budget request.
NGA Chair Nebraska Gov. Dave Heineman, NGA Vice Chair Delaware Gov. Jack Markell and Council of Governors (Council) co-chairs Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad and Washington Gov. Chris Gregoire sent letters to the Senate and House Armed Services and Appropriations Committees urging them to “support a proposal that honors the enhanced role the Air National Guard plays in our national security today and in the future.”
On behalf of the Council, Branstad and Gregoire also sent a letter to Defense Secretary Leon Panetta saying the Department of Defense’s latest proposal “falls short of addressing governors’ concerns.” The Council will continue to work with the Secretary to develop a process for fiscal discussions moving forward.
