Outdoor Recreation Learning Network

The NGA Outdoor Recreation Learning Network helps governors and their staffs explore strategies to leverage their unique natural, cultural and historical resources and help promote economic, social and environmental benefits.

Through peer-to-peer exchanges, research and dialogue, the network highlights how states can best advance outdoor recreation and explore issues related to conservation, stewardship, education, workforce training, economic development, infrastructure, public health, equity, and wellness. The network is guided by gubernatorial-appointed state outdoor recreation directors.

Ahead of the Curve: Innovation Governors

Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval’s 2017-2018 Chair’s Initiative: The world is changing rapidly due to amazing new digital and advanced technologies. These technologies are transforming our daily way of life and altering the ways businesses and industries operate. From how we heat and cool our buildings to the cars we drive, or that drive themselves, we are witnessing what some have declared the “fourth Industrial Revolution.” Given the implications for their citizens and economies, governors are looking for ideas to leverage the opportunities these new technologies present and tackle challenges to stay “ahead of the curve.” They want to know about proactive measures, partnerships and policies that can help them be “innovation governors.”

Energy Policy Learning Network

NGA Solutions: Center for Best Practices (NGA Solutions) formed the Energy Policy Learning Network in 2009 in response to requests by governors for help with a variety of energy policy issues in a comprehensive and structured way. The primary goal of the Network is to inform governors’ energy policy advisors about energy policy best practices that governors are uniquely positioned to advance.

Global Energy Solutions Summit

NGA Solutions and NGA Global are planning to host a Global Energy Solutions Summit in Spring 2019, to help governors and states gather ideas from countries that are leading in the emerging energy technologies of: offshore wind, energy storage, and carbon capture and storage.

Smarter States, Smarter Communities Learning Lab

NGA Solutions is launching the Smarter States, Smarter Communities initiative to advance a “smart for all” vision. It will help governors develop state-wide programs that build upon and expand local successes. The initiative will start with a two-year effort to educate, accelerate and replicate smart efforts across the country. NGA will initially focus on opportunities in energy, transportation and public safety and emergency response, where states are already making strides.

Transportation Learning Network

NGA Solutions is launching a new Transportation Learning Network in the Fall of 2018 to help governors and their staff explore new approaches and share lessons learned in the rapidly evolving world of transportation policy. The activities of the Network will include an annual Transportation Policy Institute for governors’ policy advisors, quarterly webinars, policy tools and guidance and in-depth technical assistance through workshops, retreats, learning labs and policy academies.

Water Policy Learning Network

NGA Solutions formed the Water Policy Learning Network in 2017 in response to requests by governors for help with a myriad of issues involving water resources. The primary goal of the Network is to inform governors’ advisors about best practices for water policy that they are uniquely positioned to advance. It is co-chaired by California’s Gov. Edmund G. Brown and Maryland’s Gov. Larry Hogan. NGA enlisted a group of national water policy and environmental experts to serve on an Advisory Group including directors from U.S Water Alliance, American Water Works Association, American Farmland Trust, River Network, Coalition of the Delaware River Watershed, American Water, Association of State Drinking Water Administrators, Environmental Council of the States, Rural Community Assistance Partnership, and the Association of Clean Water Administrators.
