Juvenile Justice

Strengthening juvenile justice systems and improving outcomes for justice-involved youth is a top priority of the nation’s governors. We know that involvement in the criminal justice system as a juvenile often leads to increased recidivism and poorer long-term outcomes for young people, their families, and their communities. Governors have an opportunity to improve the long-term outcomes for youth and their communities. The NGA Center has worked to highlight model jurisdictions and disseminate best practices regarding alternatives to incarceration for youth, including community-based corrections, home-monitoring, community service and restorative measures.
