BIO

Gina Raimondo was sworn in as governor of Rhode Island on January 6, 2015.

Raimondo grew up in Smithfield, Rhode Island. She graduated from Harvard University and Yale Law School and earned a doctorate as a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford University. Raimondo clerked for U.S. District Judge Kimba Wood and served as senior vice president of fund development at Village Ventures. She then worked for 10 years as co-founder and general partner of Point Judith Capital and was involved in dozens of successful start-up companies, primarily in the health care industry.

In November 2010, Raimondo was elected to serve as general treasurer of Rhode Island. In this role, she implemented comprehensive pension reform and is focused on providing exceptional performance-based results.

Raimondo resides in Providence with her husband, Andy Moffit, and two young children, Ceci and Tommy.

SPOUSE

Andy Moffit became Rhode Island’s first gentleman when his wife was sworn in as governor on January 6, 2015.

Mr. Moffit grew up in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, and graduated from its public schools. He is the director of industry learning for McKinsey & Company, a leading management consulting firm. He is a member of the firm’s learning leadership team, which is responsible for developing and delivering learning programs and capability-building opportunities for more than 10,000 consultants globally. Prior to this role, he was a consultant for nearly 13 years, during which he co-founded McKinsey’s global education practice and served clients in both K-12 and higher education.

Mr. Moffit also is an adjunct lecturer at Brown University and Harvard Graduate School of Education, where he teaches a course he developed, Strategic Management for School System Excellence. His book, Deliverology 101: A Field Guide for School System Leaders (2010), co-written with former colleagues Michael Barber and Paul Kihn, describes how school systems can deliver results from their strategic improvement efforts.

Before joining McKinsey, Mr. Moffit was an attorney at Davis, Polk & Wardwell in New York City, and a clerk for a federal judge in the Eastern District of New York (Brooklyn). He also was an elementary school teacher in an inner-city public school in Houston, Texas, as a corps member of Teach For America from 1991-93.

Mr. Moffit earned a juris doctorate from Yale Law School, a master of science from Oxford University, where he studied as a Rotary Scholar and met his wife, Governor Gina Raimondo, and a bachelor of arts from the University of Michigan.

They live in Providence with their two young children, Ceci and Tommy.
