Governor Bullock Appointed Chairman, Will Lead National Governors Association

SANTA FE—Today America’s governors elected Montana Governor Steve Bullock to succeed Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval as the chair of the National Governors Association (NGA). The election took place at NGA’s Summer Meeting in Santa Fe, N.M. Governor Bullock will serve in this role through July 2019.

Governor Bullock announced his Chair’s Initiative, Good Jobs for All Americans, at the closing session of the 2018 Summer Meeting. The initiative will bring together policy experts, public officials and private sector leaders to take a holistic approach to workforce development. The project examines several trends in the current labor market, including the rapid pace of automation, changing workforce demographics, the rise of the gig economy and the need for new skills in the workforce.

Good Jobs for All Americans will provide youth with pathways to future jobs, offer mid-career workers a second act and work to revitalize rural America. The initiative will elevate proven solutions and consider new ideas in workforce development policy. To achieve these ambitious goals, Governor Bullock will attend three regional workshops over the next year in different cities around the country.

Governor Bullock launched his initiative at the Summer Meeting during a fireside chat with Dr. Larry Katz, professor of economics at Harvard University. He remarked during the closing plenary, “Good Jobs for All Americans represents a collective step in the right direction towards an economy defined by upward mobility and economic success.”
