NGA Convenes Annual Policy Summit to Support Collaboration on States’ Top Policy Priorities

Policy advisors and partners from across the public and private sectors discuss disaster response, AI and the future of work, rural development, energy affordability and more


NEW ORLEANS – The National Governors Association (NGA) today convened governors’ senior policy and legislative staff in New Orleans for NGA’s Annual Policy Summit. The eventdriven by NGA’s Center for Best Practicessupports sharing cross-state, bipartisan perspectives on top policy priorities and implementation challenges for issues ranging from disaster response, rural development, and the economic impacts of AI to healthcare access, energy affordability and more.

“Governors see the impacts of federal policy up close in their states and must lead with urgency to take action on national challenges like energy affordability, healthcare access, and AI,” said NGA Chief Executive Officer Brandon Tatum. “We’re bringing experienced state officials and industry experts together to help find solutions that work in real life, outside the context of legislative intent.” 

NGA’s Center for Best Practices is the nation’s preeminent state-focused policy and technical assistance organization, providing states with highly responsive and customized best practice research, strategic planning support, and timely information from federal partners and subject matter experts. It is the only research and development firm that directly serves the nation’s governors.

“Developing real solutions to our nation’s most complex public policy challenges requires broad perspective and proactive engagement—and that begins in the states,” said Chief Policy Officer and Center for Best Practices President Timothy Blute. “We’re focused on convening the right partners to help promote policy that bridges gaps and fosters innovation.”

Participants from 17 states and territories joined NGA for the three-day convening, which will feature discussion segments on: 

  • State Policymaking in a Dynamic Disaster Landscape 
  • AI and the Future of Work  
  • Opportunities, Growth, and Resilience: Governors’ Leadership in Rural Communities   
  • Online Gambling and Prediction Markets 
  • Community Supports for Young Men and Boys  
  • Balancing Growth, Cost and Reliability through Energy Policy  

As part of the annual policy summit, NGA will also convene the Governors’ Education Policy Advisors Institute and the Governors’ Health and Human Services Policy Institute over the coming days. Both institute sessions will feature panel discussions, presentations, and roundtable workshops centered on promoting governors’ priorities and helping states navigate the implementation of federal policy.
