On Thursday, Aug. 11, 2016, a group of public health experts gathered for an update on how all levels of government (states, local, federal) are combating the Zika virus. Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), spoke about Zika as a pandemic in progress, focusing on the agency’s efforts to fully fund a preventative vaccine.
Kelly Murphy, program director for the National Governors Association’s Center for Best Practices, was one of three panelists and spoke about how states are preparing for and controlling the virus. Also participating were Rick Bright with the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority and LaMar Hasbrouck with the National Association of County & City Health Officials.
The event was hosted by the Alliance for Health Care Reform and Health Affairs.
